1. HAL to receive ₹45,000 crore orders for 83 LCA fighters
IAF to place orders worth around ₹45,000 crore with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to acquire 83 Light Combat Aircraft Tejas fighters. LCAs have been designed and developed completely by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
2. IAF inducts 8 Apache helicopters
Indian Air Force added 8 Apache helicopters at the Pathankot Air Force Station in Punjab. 125 Helicopter Squadron, known as the ‘Gladiators’, will have 22 Boeing- built Apaches, which will be stationed at Pathankot & in Jorhat Air Force Station in Assam.
3. IAF completes 1st level of astronaut selection for Gaganyaan mission
IAF announced the completion of the Level-1 selection of Indian astronauts for mission Gaganyaan, which country’s first human mission to space, aimed to be launched by 2021, a 3-member crew will spend a minimum of seven days in the space.
4. India extends $1 mn aid to Bahamas
India government announced its decision to extend a relief of $1 million to the Bahamas, which is facing the wrath of Hurricane Dorian, a category 5 hurricane with winds reaching 295 km/h.
5. DRDO hands over second ‘Netra’ early warning system to IAF
The Defence Research Development Organization handed over the second airborne warning plane, Netra, to the Indian Air Force. The Netra, an Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft, had played a stellar role during the Balakot air strikes that had been carried out by the IAF in Feb 2019.
6. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launches Navy’s first new stealth frigate,
DM Rajnath Singh launched INS ‘Nilgiri’, the first of the Navy’s seven new stealth frigates, at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai. These frigates are being built using integrated construction methodology.
